There are some foreign books sold on the 1st floor, so I think that will help you.
Very few. I think manga and light novels are the limit.
It seems likely.
There is no such space
Yes,8th floor
Excellent range of English books in section C. They have some good children's books that have been converted to English as well.
excellent benchmark for japanese bookstores, showcasing comprehensive selections. you can find most books (except out of prints) available in the market. it is quite rare that such a gigantic bookstore still maintains atmosphere of heaven for bibliophilia.
Fantastic to get any perks of any kind whether it'd be educational, English to Japanese Japanese to English or anything you need.
Love this place. THE place where you can find translated Manga, THE place where you will find a great selection of English books, both literature, travel books or books on Japan in general. Not very easy to find, but I got to buy a stack of great books here. Book prices are not exactly low though.
It's massive! So many books and a huge variety. Unfortunately if you're an English speaker, you won't have a massive selection but it's great that they still stock quite a few English books and manga.
It is a book heaven. It's a ocean of Japanese books. You will get all Japanese books possible. From text books to extensive manga collection. At least you need 3 - 4 hours if you want to see the book collection properly. But it's a must visit place for book lovers. But for non Japanese section, collection is very very limited.
People like to get waisted here. In a popular area. Interesting food!
A great collection of English books, sth rare in Tokyo
I've always only gone to Books Kinokuniya Tokyo branch when I needed to look for foreign books so I'm happy to discover Kinokuniya Shinjuku. There were a lot of titles and authors that I was interested in and will definitely be coming back here to buy new books. Some of the authors I saw that you can't always find everywhere include Ray Bradbury and Alice Munroe.
Great selection of books and you can get tax free as a short term tourists with 5500 JPY purchase. The sad thing is that their elevators are always full so a good tip would be to use the escalators until the 4th floor to have a higher chance seeing not-so-full elevators.
This store mostly sells Japanese books, while you can find foreign language learning books including those for Japanese at the 7th floor. You can also find foreign books at the 1st floor. Check out the branch at Takashimaya Times Square for the more comprehensive list of foreign books.
Very nice book store. On the ground floor there is a shop for English speakers.
Nice book store with a huge variety of book.Whatever you're looking for you're pretty sure to find it there !Good to know : They have Japanese language books (for foreigners learning Japanese) and also travel guides/books both in English and Japanese (even found some in French). The guide books are at the B1 close to restaurants (with can make them hard to find)
If you are theater lover it got the best collection of book for acting and stage management in Japanese. A small theatre in this building which always has famous actors involve the performance.
Very very helpful and have English magazine books and other
Have almost everything that you know in smoking, not drugs ¡!Pricey but good quality
Quite nice store to be honest. Few floors full of books, magazines and more. I highly dig the information boxes that help with searching the book needed.
Quite confusing to figure out how to go which floor on specific book section. But the staff was helpful. The book arranged nicely and organized. You can check online to see the book is in stock before go there. Really convenient.
A large book store just opposite to the shinjuku station. You will find a large collection of books, magazine and mangas. This book store has the highest collection of English books. They keep themselves updated with the latest bestsellers. There is a corner for souvenirs also. Unique and elegant pens and other stationaries can be found here.
Great selection of Japanese books here, and the staff are generally pretty helpful. The elevators can get pretty crowded though, and since the store spans so many floors taking the stairs is not always easy.
The best bookstore in Tokyo for a range of topics, including guides to Japan and the Japanese language for international visitors. I suggest visiting the magazine section on the lower level to buy a men's or women's magazine (for JPY 1,000 to 2,000) that includes a small gift such as a tote bag, small print, or other similar item - makes for a great gift!
As a foreigner, the layout of the store was quite confusing because it appears as if each genre has a defined separation from another and seemed like individual stores in a floor. Staff were helpful. I just showed a picture of the book and responded fast.
Loved this place! You could get lost here for hours. They have a huge selection of books about anything and everything. They also have a section of English language books and manga. For foreign visitors they offer tax free shopping for purchases over ¥5000 but remember to bring your passport with you.
The books' collection was so damn lit! I can't express how much great I felt after going there! The collection of Japanese books translated into English is decent enough as well. Loved it! Will definitely visit again.
Just an awesome book store, especially if you love anime. I just wanted to live here. So much variety in art books as compared to the one in sf, though all the manga are in Japanese.
Despite what other reviewers say (and the Google description) this is not the main store for English language books. It has a small respectable range, but the other Kinokuniya store some 800m south (near Takashimaya department store) has a lot more.
6 floors of books, cd, dvd, comics, magazines etc. Almost 70% are jap language. Other titles in english but is a minority. The sheer variety of books! How i wish i could read in japanese.
Spacious with plenty of books, magazines to choose from, majority in Japanese
Good selection of English manga and light novels. Not massive but better than anywhere else I'd going found.
This is the biggest bookstore of this brand. On that day I went there in order to bought Thai language teaching books. Here also have.
One section of Kinokuniya Shinjuku Main Store is fossil section or fossil shop. Here we could find many fossils, minerals and rocks became jewellery. It's very interesting to learn from the past.Must have enough time to enjoy the collections.
Wow, just wow! This is the best place to look for books, even foreign language ones. It has several floors, and each floor is jam-packed! Book-lovers, come! You've found your paradise!
Super large collection of books. There's a section on the ground just for English translations. You can easily find most of the mainstream ones.
Plenty of Books and mangas in English. Nice staff
I love that they have a section where you can buy English novels
There are too many books, definitely has one of the most varietes of books. But for those who already know what they want or the genre they are specifically interested in, this place is too huge to find one.
I've been coming to this bookstore since my time studying abroad in Tokyo. Living here, I don't come here that often anymore but for those who are studying Japanese and need language materials, this is THE place. Although most decent-sized bookstores have a selection, this place has the best selection of textbooks, grammar dictionaries, dictionaries, vocabulary books and of course, an assorted selection of JLPT preparation books. If your Japanese is advanced enough, you can find Japanese language materials for native speakers as well. There's a wide array of language learning books for other languages as well such as Korean (which I am studying at the moment) for both Japanese speakers (books published in Japan) and English speakers (books published in Korea or the US, or elsewhere). It gets really crowded on the weekends and considering it's 8 floors up, there can be a wait for the elevator.
This good old book store has been around for ages. It was here where my father used to buy thick and bulky books on economics while waiting for my mother to finish work. I came back from England to attend a Japanese univercity and often I would crave for English books. Then I browse around the shop unable to decide which books to buy. Those English books were so expensive back in the 90's.Despite the trend to download books and magazine , I'm glad that Kinokuniya book shop is sill here, safe and sound.
Excellent selection of Japanese and international languages books! excellent service.
Here you can always find books in foreign languages. Not only English, but German, French and others as well. They also provide a huge selection of books in Japanese. Here I always find books for cooking and design. Great choice and service. You can also get Japanese green tea on the ground floor.
Lovely break from the rain. Oddly enough, one of the staff members spoke German so I was able to communicate easily. Staff is friendly and helpful when looking for books.
Amazing book finds here at Kinokuniya. You'd be inspired to read and explore different genres with their vast offerings. Stumbled upon their Kino Chaya shop with cute characters. You can spend the whole day searching for good books to read. We resisted ourselves from buying lots of titles because the prints are really catchy and the contents are wonderful. Will sure be back next time!
If you love books, visiting Kinokuniya is a must. We've been to the other branches of Kinokuniya in SG, BKK, and KL so we are very excited to see the main branch in Shinjuku. Although the English section doesn't compare to the other branches outside Japan, it is still quite nice to shop here since there are so many other things to see especially the magazines. It has several floors dedicated to different items. I also love the pens and postcards/ cards section.
Retail prices for foreign books otherwise this is everything you'd want from a bookshop in Japan they even have dedicated machines to look for a book that you can't find. Staff is nice and will help you in English too.
A big book store in Shinjuku district. This store covers almost all the category of books. It is a seven story book store. Most of the books are Japanese books. There is a English book section on the 1st floor but it is tiny. If you would like to study Japanese language, there is a good selection of books on the 7th floor. There is also a used vinyl record shop, a branch of Disc Union used music stores, on the 8th floor (CLASSICAL, Jazz, some Rock Music. For other genres, go to other branches of Disc Union located nearby in Shinjuku district). There is a Kinokuniya hall on the 9th floor.
Surprisingly they don’t have any Japanese textbooks for Chinese speakers. Disappointing...
Big, the whole building is full with books, good chance to find what you are looking for.
We were able to find several backcountry skiing guide books here that we couldn't find in other places. There is a huge selection and the staff are incredibly helpful in finding what we were looking for. There was a large area just devoted to maps and outdoor guides.
Kinokuniya is probably one of the best bookstores in japan
There's a small English book section (even for popular Japanese manga)
